A Clean Mind, Not Just Clean Clothes
This week, something really hit me. I work as an electrician, and when we need to dig a hole, we usually have a young helper for it. He promised us that he would finish the job by Monday. But when we arrived on Monday, the hole was still not done. So, I took a shovel and started digging myself.
At first, I wasn't too happy about it. I was dirty, tired, and covered in mud. While I was digging, I started thinking about the time when I used to work in an office. Back then, my clothes were always clean, my hands were soft, and my shoes never touched the mud. But suddenly I realised something — even though I looked clean, my mind wasn't.
In the office, I often felt stressed and full of unnecessary thoughts. But now, standing there with a shovel in my hands, breathing the fresh air, I felt calm and free. My mind was finally quiet. That's when I remembered a quote by Tomáš Baťa: "Whenever I didn't know what to do, I started doing work that doesn't require thinking."
And he was right. Sometimes, physical work is exactly what we need. It connects us to reality, clears our thoughts, and gives us a sense of purpose. You don't need a perfect office or fancy clothes to feel good about your life. Sometimes all you need is to get your hands dirty, feel the ground under your feet, and do something real.
So next time you face confusion or stress, don't overthink it. Just start doing something — even the simplest task. Because a clean mind is worth much more than clean clothes.
